Description
Five late 19th century Japanese ceramic netsuke representing theatrical masks of (left to right): a blind man with characteristic bump on his forehead, God of Fishing Ebisu, mythical half man half bird tengu, moribund wrinkled Saisoro and angry Akujo. Very well made, crisp detailing, slight darkening of protruding parts from wear, two acceptable chips (one to the underside of tengu’s beak, the other to the back of Akujo. Not marked, but must have been made by Sekisen or Sekiho - modeling is identical to the ones made by those 2 artists. Height of the tallest (Akujo) 1 7/8 inches.
