Lot 0196
Chinese Ming period porcelain Jar. The under glazed bulbous body, gently waisted to the base, with rounded shoulder toward prominent short neck further to wide opening rim. Decorated with hand-painting in iron-red underglaze depicted vigorous dragon striding within flames and clouds above cresting wavy LiShui water. Geometrical pattern and floral motifs ribbons banded to the neck under the rim. The glaze appearance on the blue painting resembled the texture of an orange peel "ju-pi" (chu-p'i) or a chicken skin. The porcelain vase is displayed upon a carved hardwood stand. The glaze terminated slightly before the foot rim, revealed the pale-creme ground with burnt orange and darker spots in the firing with some white glazed spots and edge-cut foot rim. Initiated conjugated mark between lower and upper body can be seen from uneven surface along the shoulder.

Dimensions: 12" H x 10" Dia.
