19th C. Colonial Iron Processional Cross, ex-Historia

Latin America, Mexico, ca. 1800 CE. An impressive hand-forged iron cross or crucifix, detached from its staff, from a village in Mexico. This type of cross was used in Christian processions, particularly during la Semana Santa. Nice cut lunar motifs on the peripheries of the cross and intriguing incised maker's mark on back side. A veritable Spanish Colonial treasure! Size: 4.25" W x 9" H (10.8 cm x 22.9 cm).
