After Barraband, Jacques. French (1767-1809). 4 plates, 2 from "History of the Birds of Paradise" by Francois Levaillant, 1801-06, printed in color on wove paper: Le Barbu a plastron rouge. No 36 ++ Le Barbu barbichon. No 56; 2 plates from "Histoire naturelle des perroquets" by Francois Levaillant Paris: Levrault frères and Levrault, Schoell & Co., 1801-1805 printed in color: La Perruche Lori. Pl 52 ++ La Perruche Edwards. Pl 68. The two Barbets measure 13.25" x 20.25". The 2 Parrots have been trimmed so that their dimensions differ: Plate 52 is 12.5" x 18.5", Plate 68 is 14" x 21".Provenance: From the collection of Jim Willis.Condition: The plates have been trimmed to some extent: no plate marks are present on the Barbet plates, but are all present on the Parrot plates. There is edge chipping and some discoloration to the parrot plates, with small closed tears to the right and top edges of parrot 68. The two Barbets have a few small brown spots, more to the top right hand corner and bottom edge of Barbet 56. Nonetheless, four striking prints by a master ornithological illustrator.
