Mid 19th century, Upcountry South Carolina, possibly Thomas Owenby, Henson Family or Kirsey's Crossroad Edgefield District, South Carolina. The jar having excellent form with tooled rim above three well-placed lug handles leaving one handle off, perhaps for pouring. The alkaline glaze having quartz throughout. The base is unglazed. The form of the piece favors that of Dave's working at Stoney Bluff and some scholars have stated that this piece could perhaps be from the Edgefield District of South Carolina. While the handles do present themselves similarly to that of Dave's work other elements of the jar suggest it to have perhaps been made in the upcountry. A very handsome, large and well-crafted example. Good condition throughout. H23"
