Late 18th-century-early 19th century. Very well-executed portrait of a gentleman in stately clothing sitting with hat and riders crop in hand. The piece has the warmth and feel of some of the better portrait artist of the period and is very well-executed. The piece having been relined in the late 19th early 20th century most likely and the canvas is very tight and strong. House in a Victorian frame. Good overall condition with some minor crazing to surface and loss to gessoed frame. H42" W 34"

Condition

The painting has been relined. There is an area of inpainting on the top right-hand side not affecting the sitter. The bottom right-hand portion exhibiting signs of inpainting as well.
