Antique original Harper's Southern States Civil War Map, Ca.1863. On Top reads, “Map Of The Southern States, including rail roads, country towns, state capital, country roads, the southern coast from Delaware to Texas, showing the harbors, inlets, forts and position of blockading ships”. Lower center reads, Prepared for Harper’s Pictorial History of the Civil War. December, 1863. In full color, the map has ornate borders with portraits at four corners showing Lincoln, Seward, General Scott & General McClellan. On the verso are three black / white wood engraved birds-eye views; two single page and one large double page. The double page image details the region around the Chesapeake Bay, entitled “Pictorial Map of Portions of Delaware, Maryland, Virginia, and North Carolina ….”. The other two images are “Balloon View of Fortress Monroe and Hampton Roads” and “Balloon View of the Seat of War”. Due to age, the map was placed inside plastic with loose thicker backing and verso was not fully photograph to avoid further damage.
