A DARK BLUE GROUND COUCHED GILT AND VEGETABLE DYED FORBIDDEN STITCH SILK TEN DRAGON JIFU COURT ROBE, IN THE QING DYNASTY STYLE, probably for summer use of a high ranking official, the black trim collar, surrounding brown silk woven with bamboo, centering a gilt braid trim to a blue silk ground, over two blue and red flamed horned dragons on the shoulders, encircling pearls of wisdom, over light blue, dark blue and jade colored clouds with yellow, blue, red, jade, swirls, as red bats soar among them, the coat front centering a large, gilt scaled, five toed dragon and flaming pearl, flanked by a lidded bottle, a fish with red chrysanthemum, a flaming lotus seed and cabbage, above a central bat meeting a butterfly carrying two red chrysanthemums, trailed by a tassel, above two dragons in pursuit of two flaming pearls, surmounting three mountains rising from lishui waves at the base, issuing ruyi and swastika forms, among red coral branches, and coin money, the verso of a similar motif surrounded by auspicious symbols of a libation cup, a gourd, a lotus, an endless knot, centering a green butterfly below a bat, lined with gauze and light blue silk, the interior of collar has a red square seal with four obscured characters. There are losses to thread, some gilt couching now unraveling, fabric additions, repairs, later added thread are throughout. Some seams are brittle and easily tear. The collar has been relined. Some fading of dyed threads. There are various stains mostly on the interior of the sleeves and coat. Overall in good condition, wear commensurate with age and use.
