KING (English 1819-1884) SILVERED BRASS BOX SURVEYING COMPASS WITH VANES, BRISTOL, ENGLAND, CIRCA 1860-1880, the silvered brass dial with black enamel directionals centering eight lines and a compass circle, with silvered steel nagnetic and brass fixed index line, with silvered graduation circle marked with black enamel numerals, to the sides foldable brass eye and guide vanes, cased within a stained mahogany box, the dial marked "Thos. D. King, 9 Clare Street, Bristol". Height: 6 5/8" Width: 7 3/4" Depth: 7 3/4"
In overall fair condition with rubbing and staining to the silvered finish of the dial, the magnetic needle with corrosion and losses to the silvering, glass plate chipped around the edges, the case with a large split down the middle with area of loss, rubbing and scratching to the vanes, the guide wires within the vanes bent.
