Ancient Near East, northwestern Iran, Luristan, ca. 1200 to 800 BCE. A pair of finely-built bronze bowls from the storied Luristan culture. Each vessel has a rounded but stable base, a deep interior cavity, and a slight indented rim. Luristan bronzes far-outstripped those of their contemporaries in both execution and visual appeal; these bowls were most likely created for the purpose of interment to be filled with libations or other funerary offerings. Both bowls present a beautiful verdant-green patina. Size of largest: 6" Diameter (15.2 cm).
