Central Asia, Dagestan, ca. 300 to 100 BCE. Rare bronze ax head in heavy cast form with crescent-shaped head and horse head at the end, rectangular shaft hole and circular holes on each side for attachment of a rivet through the wooden shaft. It appears this has never been sharpened which might imply it was lost before it was finished, or was purely votive in purpose. Size: 5" W x 2.875" H (12.7 cm x 7.3 cm)
Provenance: Ex-private Orange County, CA collection
