    A non-listed Latin version of this map, with page number “36” of which no version is recorded. Similar to the page 38 map of the 1595 Latin edition. Exceedingly rare and important. Common copies of this map sell for $400 - $600. More background: Map of Antwerp, Rotterdam, and surrounding area . Title: BRABANTIAE | DESCRIPTIO. [A representation of Brabant]. (Cartouche middle right:) "Stemmate et eruditione claro | Dn. Hadriano Marsselario, | patricio Antwerpiensi; | Ab. Ortelius dedicab. | L.M." [Dedicated to the honoured and highly erudite Lord Hadrianus Marssellarius, Antwerp patrician, by Abraham Ortelius, willingly, in the month of May]. (Lower right corner:) "Cum Imp. Reg. & | Brabantiæ priuilegio | decennali. 1591." [With imperial, royal and Brabant privilege for ten years, 1591.] Upper left: "De Peele. Tractus palustris et treme:|bundus, adeo ut vix hominum ferat | vestigia".     Abraham Ortelius (1527 - 1598) was a Flemish cartographer & geographer, celebrated as the creator of the first modern atlas, the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum (Theatre of the World). Ortelius' work, the Theatrum Orbis Terrarum, was the first uniformly sized, systematic collection of maps; this work can therefore be called the first atlas (although the term was not used until 20 years later by Mercator).
