Historically, back at the turn of the century, in England, there was a place called Nottingham Forest, where beautiful mahogany trees grew. The local wood carvers used the mahogany wood to carve all sorts of things, from duck decoys to fishing reels. This reel was of that era. We know it was carved before World War I because with the outbreak of hostilities, brass became unavailable as it all was used for shell casings. Thus, came the name "NOTTINGHAM FLY REEL". - AntiqueFlyReel.com
