1836 Mignet on French Revolution Illustrated Napoleon Louis XVI Execution France
A rare 1836 edition of Mignet’s ‘History of the French Revolution.’ This sixth edition is a classic account of the late 18th-century upheaval that is supplemented with 24 charming illustrated engravings depicting famous scenes and events from the French Revolution: two important engravings in this book are the execution of Louis XVI and a portrait of Napoleon Bonaparte.
Born at the start of the French Revolution, Francois Mignet did more to further the terror of the French Revolution than settle the uneasiness it caused. He, alongside, Adolphe Thiers, perpetuated the negative events, even into the rise and reign of Napoleon Bonaparte. Mignet is even known to have said that terror was vital and legitimate in French Revolution.
