Paul Belloni Du Chaillu was a French-American traveler, zoologist, and anthropologist. His rise to fame took place in the mid-19th century when he became the first modern European outsider to confirm the existence of gorillas and later the Pygmy people of central Africa.

“Stories of the Gorilla Country” is the first, in a series of five, stories written for young readers. Each work was profusely illustrated with steel engravings throughout, including this American edition.
