First published in 1700, ‘Memoirs of the most Material Transaction in England’ is a treatise by James Welwood. Known mostly for his work in medicine, Welwood produced this book summarizing his views on the current state of England during the reign of Queen Elizabeth. The first part of this treatise focuses on English royalty, their character, attitudes toward each other, correspondence with foreign nations, and the outcomes of their lives. Welwood includes profiles of Mary Queen of Scots, Prince Henry, King James, Sir Walter Raleigh, and other well known figures.
