Biography: Litchfield County Auctions is pleased to offer highlights from the modern art collection of late entrepreneur and patented inventor George W. Lyons, Jr.. George’s father had founded the Bilco Company in New Haven, Connecticut in 1926. A Connecticut native, George served as both a Captain and Pilot in the Army Air Force and was an avid collector of modern art. The George W. Lyons, Jr. collection focuses primarily on the work of artists from or whose work was produced in Connecticut, mainly that of Josef Albers. The Formulation: Articulation collection we are offering is from a collection of 1000, printed in 1972 by Harry N. Abrams, Inc. and Ives Stillman, Inc. George knew the artist personally and was present at the studio during the printing of the Formulation: Articulation. More information about the Josef and Anni Albers foundation can be found online.
