English (London), ca 1770. A Chippendale tall case clock in mahogany, having a eight-day movement with secondary moon phase, silvered and brass dial signed W.M. Smith / Lancaster, bonnet top with a central carved finial, above an elaborately carved acanthus leaf pediment with scalloped edge tombstone door flanked by reeded columns with brass Corinthian capitals, waist carved with Chinese Chippendale frieze, surrounding an elongated shaped door with original brass escutcheon, flanked by reeded corner columns, the carved base rising on ogee bracket feet; ht. 96, wd. 18.25, dp. 10 in. 

Condition

Item is in good condition. Some minimal age splits to case. Veneer cracking as expected with age and wood grain expansion over time. Untested to see if in working order. Cowan's does not guarantee working condition of clocks and mechanical items.
