Group of 3 paper ephemera items relating to the Black Experience in America during the era of slavery ++ Newspaper ad offering a reward, $300, for 3 runaway slaves: Davy (David Herbert), “a mulatto man, about 47 or 48 years of age, five feet 9 or 10 inches high” and “John Herbert, his brother, also a mulatto 36 years of age, is upwards of 6 feet… lost one, or perhaps two, of his front teeth…,” and Jim Hagan, about 44 years old, 5 feet, 9 or 10 inches," 5 1/8 x 3 in. Text side near fine, verso mounted on a collector’s construction paper backing. ++ Broadside advertising from "The American Farmer." Contents of 4 issues are listed on the broadside. 1 issue’s table of contents mentions use of slaves in cotton farming. ++ Upper half of a mortgage for land in Onandaga County, New York. 1868. Blank area notes the receipt of 5 mortgage payments, Feb. 10, 1870 to Feb. 10, 1875. Splitting to folds.
