Ancient Egypt, Neolithic period, ca. 5000 to 3100 BCE. A pair of dark reddish yellow stone scrapers, hand-knapped. Scrapers were used for cleaning animal hides, slicing vegetables, and possibly preparing other kinds of food, and are one of the longest enduring and most important technologies that humans ever developed. Each of these can be gripped by its wide, smooth surface, leaving the knapped edge exposed. Size of largest: 4" W x 4.1" H (10.2 cm x 10.4 cm)
