Pre-Columbian, northern Peru, Tallan culture, ca. 700 to 1000 CE. Lovely pottery jar from a culture that is little known and little studied. Strap handle and bulbous body covered in thick kaolin slip. Vessel represents a wrinkled face emerging from either vegetation or some form of head covering with jutting lower jaw and round sunken eyes. Fascinating! Size: 6" H (15.2 cm)
