Northern Europe, London, ca. 1750 CE, created by J. Basire, "Newport, a strong sea-port town in Flanders restored to the empire by ye Treaty of Utrecht : for Mr. Tindal's continuation of Mr. Rapin's history of England". A copperplate engraving with a high level of detail, showing an aerial-view map of the city and a skyline view. Ships along the river, cannon emplacements, windmills, towers, and a labeled key to important places in the town provide fantastic details. Size: 19.6" W x 15.7" H (49.8 cm x 39.9 cm)

"The continuation of Mr. Rapin's History of England: from the revolution to the present times" was a massive undertaking by Nicolas Tindal, building upon the work done by Rapin de Thoyras, with engravings, including the one above, done by Basire.

One of these engravings is held by the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library at Yale (call number 335 N55 1789).
