(1) 1/9 plate Daguerreotype (2"x 2.5") of a dapper young gentleman in a black Gutta Percha or Union Case (3" x 2.75")made by the Scovill Manufacturing Company in a popular design called "The Liberty Cap, Flags and Shield." Preserver and mat are in excellent condition. The case has a chip near the latch but it doesn't affect the smooth, square closing and firm latching. Classic Civil War era design and a wonderful addition to any collection. (1) 1/9 plate size tintype (2"x 2.5") of a young gentleman in a black Gutta Percha or Union Case (3" x 2.75") made by Littlefield, Parsons and Company, probably in the early days of the Civil War. The cover depicts a military tent, a U.S. Flag and a 12 pound, Napoleon smoothbore cannon while the back displays a foliate design. The rounded corners and edges of the case are smooth, the detail on the cover is crisp and the hinges well-set. The preserver , mat and glass are in excellent condition. (1) 1/16 plate (1.5" x 1.75" ) Ambrotype of a young man in a black Gutta Percha or Union Case (2" x 2.25".) Made by Littlefield, Parsons and Company, this case called "The Young Tar" is considered to be quite rare. Other than a fleabite to an inside edge, the rounded corners are smooth and all edges in good condition. The hinges are well-set and close squarely and the case latches firmly. The Ambrotype itself shows darkening around the edges which is not uncommon. A very special addition to any collection.
