Notable excerpts include: (1) May 28, 1899 To Robert A Wells, Manila (from his father "JW", Felicity OH) 'We keep an eye on the paper to see when the Morgan City gets to Manila. They will likely send you to some point in the interior. I see Pres. McKinley orders GIs to crush the Philippines and not parley so much." [note: The SS Morgan City ran aground and was wrecked near Innoshima on the 2nd Sept, 1899 while en route from San Francisco bound for Manila with troops and supplies_x000D_

(3) July 9, 1899 To Robert A Wells, Manila (from his sister Ida, Felicity OH) "All of the (service) boys are still here at their comes. Some of them work and some don't do any work. Most of them would rather get drunk than anything else." (4) Aug 7, 1899 To Robert A Wells, Manila (from his father "JW", Felicity OH) "Charley Wiley just came down from up town and says John Donnold shot and killed Snider the Miller at Higginsport S… diner. You remember he killed the Marshal last year (Holf Hill.) He is a bad man and should be something done with him this time. I hear later that him and his boy both shot Snider and that the boy left but John is in jail.
