Details: 8pcs Ink Nude Studies ORIGINAL SALVATORE GRIPPI SKETCHES Artist Signed Vintage New York School Unique Ithaca NY Artwork Home/Office/Studio Decoration

Three of these 8 nude studies in ink are signed by their creator, noted New York School artist Salvatore Grippi.

The pieces are similar in size, measuring approximately 13.75" x 20".

Worth Auctions is pleased to offer a number of rare works by Salvatore Grippi, an important New York School painter who worked and exhibited alongside the likes of de Kooning, Nevelson, and Kline during the heyday of the Abstract Expressionist movement in the 1950s. In 1968, Grippi established the art department at Ithaca College, where he taught until 1991. In 2011, he was honored with a solo retrospective at Cornell University's Johnson Museum of Art. This was the last time that Grippi's work was displayed in his hometown - until now. Worth Auctions is proud to offer Grippi’s works to the public. He was a significant figure in postwar abstraction and his work from this period has graced the walls of MoMA, the Whitney, and the Met but has seldom appeared at auction. It is fitting that these pieces are being shown and sold here in Ithaca, where Grippi taught and maintained a studio for most of his career, while they are also visible to collectors all over the world.

Please attend our live sale to view these drawings and other interesting artwork in person.
Condition / Notes: These pieces display a typical range of age and wear indications. Some drawings may have partial marginal tears and show signs of light toning and speckling. The drawings appear to have been torn from Grippi's personal sketchbook.
