Pre-Columbian Nayarit Polychrome Snake Pottery Bowl (ca. ~400 AD - 900 AD). Mexico 5 3/8" dia x 2 3/4" h. High-walled bowl with red & black/brown paint on a light buff slip. Stylized snake design and thick hatched band on interior of bowl. Exterior is painted with concentric lines. Condition: Paint is still vibrant and design elements clear. Some oxidation and smudging of exterior lines. Several chips along rim and pinpoints throughout bowl. Wear is appropriate to ancient use. This lot is from the Florida Estate of J.J. Schmidt Jr. and was acquired prior to 1970. All age referred to in the description is the opinion of the gallery and based on our research.
