Rome, Imperial Period, Eastern Mediterranean, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A utilitarian red ceramic plate with a disc foot and slightly turned rim. The surface has wonderful calcifications and accretions of white, yellow, and rust red. This plate is a testament to the robust trade of the Roman Empire in widely manufactured domestic wares. Size: 10.5" W x 2" H (26.7 cm x 5.1 cm)

Provenance: private G.P. Bavarian, Germany collection, acquired in the 1980s
