Rome, Imperial Period, Eastern Mediterranean, ca. 1st to 3rd century CE. A utilitarian red ceramic plate with a disc foot and slightly turned rim. The surface has wonderful calcifications and accretions of white, yellow, and rust red. This plate is a testament to the robust trade of the Roman Empire in widely manufactured domestic wares.
