West Africa, Nigeria, Ogoni peoples, ca. early to mid 20th century CE. A mesmerizing wooden mask, colored with dark, soil-based pigments, with a small face with deepset eyes, a short, flaring nose, and a small mouth and ears. The face is marked by two large round scar-like protrusions, one at either temple. Atop the head is a rounded tiara-like headdress. Size: 5" W x 8" H (12.7 cm x 20.3 cm)
