Quistgaard's works are in many collections, including those of Rosenborg Castle, Copenhagen, the Denver Art Museum, Washington University (St. Louis), the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society, the United States Treasury Department, and the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. In 1919, a Knighthood of Dannebrog was conferred upon him by King Christian X of Denmark, and Quistgaard was named a Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor in 1926 for his exhibition at the Durand-Ruel the previous year.
Johan W. De Rehling-Quistgaard died in Copenhagen in 1962.
