Marcel Gautherot(1910-1996) was born in Paris. He moved to Brazil in 1939 and was part of the circle of intellectuals linked to modernism. He begins to do photography work for SPHAN, the Museum of Folklore and works for O Cruzeiro magazine. In 1986, together with Pierre Verger, he received the Golden Dolphin Award in the Photography category from the Government of the State of Rio de Janeiro. He was best known for his documentation in some three-thousand images of the construction of the Brazilian capital city Brasilia from 1958 to 1960.
