After Sir Joshua Reynolds
Portrait of Richard Peers Symons
Oil on canvas
35-1/2 x 23-1/2 inches (90.2 x 59.7 cm) (sight)
Signed lower right

Canvas mounted in ornately carved giltwood frame, overall dimensions 45-3/4 x 34 inches.

This painting is a copy of the original, painted by Joshua Reynolds around 1770-1771. At the time of the original portrait's rendering, Richard Peers Symons was a twenty-five year old member of the British Parliament. Peers is depicted among classical antiquity, probably on the grounds of the Temple of Vesta at Tivoli. Symons eventually rose to the title of Baronet.

The original work by Reynolds resides in the permanent collection of the Cincinnati Art Museum.

Condition

Framed dimensions are 45-3/4 x 34. Impasto to some foliage fluoresces, in apparently good condition.

Note: gilding to frame remains strong and bright, appears distorted in the provided images.
