French m. 1854 naval officer's dress sword. This is a rarely found example of a senior French naval officer's dress sword. It is based on the Model 1837 French naval officer's sword but differs in that both the hilt and scabbard are highly decorated with gilt brass motifs. The ribbed grip is made from horn. The blade is slightly curved and single-edged with double edged tip. The pierced guard, pommel and mounts are of gilded brass. Scabbard is made of black stitched leather.

Overall length: 33 in., 84 cm., blade length: 26 5/8 in., 67 1/2 cm.
