Warren Chase Merritt 8 panel mural titled "The History of Paper Making", all signed and dated 1929, oils on canvas laid down on wood panels, commissioned by Crown Zellerbach for their San Francisco headquarters in 1929. Merritt's first mural commission. Subjects are: 1) Egyptian papyrus; 2) Chinese silk; 3) Persian papermaking; 4) Gutenberg press; 5) Tree cutting; 6) Floating logs to mill; 7) Paper manufacturing; 8) Shipping by Crown Zellerbach, with San Francisco skyline. Each 73 1/2" t, with 4 @ 52 1/2"w, 3 @ 34"w, 1@ 45 1/4" w. Very good condition, unframed.
