A group of 8 Roman and Byzantine lead seals and tokens. Lot includes three Roman lead seals, c. 1st - 4th Century AD, depicting deities including Athena, who holds a spear and shield. The balance of the group are Byzantine lead seals, c. 7th - 11th Century AD, mostly with inscriptions but a couple with crosses and a partial seal with two delightfully rendered fishes head to tail. Diameters from 17 mm to 39 mm. Said to be from the Fayum region of Egypt. Ex New York private collection.
