A beautiful mid-19th Century oil on wood panel landscape painting by French painter Charles-Francois Daubigny (1817-1878) a principal member of the Barbizon school, signed 'Daubigny' in the lower right. The painting, depicts a picturesque lakeside view with a tract of water in the foreground and lush vegetation seen against a luminous sky.
The painting is 7 ½ in x 13 ¾ in (19 x 35 cm), and has been professionally cleaned with just light surface accretion and age toning. The beautiful, gilded and detailed wooden frame is well-preserved as well with just some surface scratching and wear. The work is executed in the plein-air style of the Barbizon school which is marked by subtle brushwork, technical accuracy and nuanced treatment of green tones. Daubigny himself is thought to have influenced the famed Impressionist painters Monet and Cezanne, having spend much time with both of them. DaubignyÂ’s finest work is considered to have been created between 1864 – 1874 and his paintings are represented in the Louvre in Paris. A rare opportunity to obtain a work of art from this important painter.
