DESCRIPTION: An antique Japy Freres Egyptian Revival, clock and garniture set. The clock case is embellished with an overall griotte marble and engraved slate foundation. The base of the clock is composed of an ebonized bronze with scrolled rococo motif feet with gilded accents. The clock face is covered with a glass panel and is designed with a black slate foundation, with an inlaid griotte center, enveloped by engraved Roman Numerals, and further carved with gadroon accents. Enveloped the face are engraved and gilded scrolled Rococo floral motifs. Flanking the clock face are two tone bronze eagle heads with orbs in their beaks,, further embellished with hanging handles. Atop the clock is a seated griffin with gilded wing tips, flanked by scrolled acanthus leaf motif handles. The two garnitures are designed with an overall matching bronze, griotte, and slate foundation along the bases, finished with bronze, handled urns topped by acanthus leaf motif finials. Movement is marked with Japy Freres stamp.

CONDITION: Minor chips and splits along verso of the base of the clock. One chip along griotte at the top of the clock, below the griffin. Wind tool is present. Uncertain if in working order.
