Included for bidding in this lot is an exceptionally crafted scrimshaw steer horn. Starting with the horn itself - you will notice a gorgeous color gradient of rich caramel brown on the tip, which fades to a soft brown/grey, and finally fading into soft khaki, and red near the base. The base of the horn shows gorgeous scalloped edges, with repeating diamonds adorning the high and lows of the rounded edges. The majority of the horn shows an intricate, weaving floral pattern. In addition to the floral pattern, you will see a curious owl, an nautical anchor, a biblical cross - flanked by doves, and scattered small birds. The horn also utilizes two brass eyelet hooks for a shoulder strap. The tip of the horn shows hand carving, but remains solid - attributing this piece to be used as decoration, rather than a powder horn. The horn shows good condition. The piece measures approximately 14" long, 12 1/2" deep, and 4" wide at the base of the horn.
