Offered for bidding in this lot is an early embossed tin sign originating from 1904-1920, from Sheridan County, Wyoming - In the form of a Carney Coal Company, embossed tin advertising sign. The Carney Coal Company was established in 1904 by timber and coal magnates, W.J. Carney of Chicago, and his brother Bernard J. Carney of Omaha. Through strike, and hardship of a small mining town, the company name was changed to "Kleenburn" in 1924, and operations were taken over by Sheridan Wyoming Coal Company. The sign shows rich red, deep black, and off-white finish, and reads "Carney Coal Trade Mark - The Kemper-Thomas CO. Cincinnati. O.". The sign is in good condition overall, it does show some patina indicative of age. The sign measures 9 1/4" x 9 1/8".
