George III period English sterling silver tobacco box, in ovoid form, having an ornate hinged lid with floral garland decoration and gold washed interior. With beautifully chased lattice pattern embellishment to exterior. Holds unidentified maker's mark dating to Birmingham, circa 1818. Engraved dedication to inverse of lid reads: "From S.M. Barret Esq. of Carleton, Yorkshire to Mr. David Broomfield, Thirlestaine Castle, 1820". Measures approx. 1-1/2"H x 4-1/2"L x 1-1/2"W. Weighs approx. 6.38 ozt (198 grams).
