**First Time At Auction**

Pre-Columbian, Southern Mexico to Guatemala, Mayan Territories, Maya, Late Classic Period, ca. 550 to 900 CE. A large olla with a squat composition depicting a rotund anthropomorphic figure as the central design element. It has a round yet stable base, rolling walls, a deep interior cavity, and a thin rim. The figure exhibits stylized arms, legs, and genitalia, with a wide head crowned with a scalloped headband projecting from the rim. Presented in a classic light-orange hue with some areas of darkened fire-clouding, this is a wonderful vessel from the Mayan Empire! Size: 6" H (15.2 cm).

Provenance: private Andrade collection, New York, New York, USA, acquired in the 1960s; ex-Knoedler & Company, New York, New York, USA

Head reattached with light adhesive residue along break line. Expected age-commensurate surface wear and abrasions, with a couple of stabilized hairline fissures extending downwards from the rim. Fading to coloration with some fire-clouding, and small chips to rim and base, otherwise very good. Light earthen deposits throughout.
