Antique solid 14K yellow gold framed lens c. 1910 Edwardian lorgnette. Gold Embossed with laurel leaves. The spring loaded lenses release and unfold automatically with depression of the side lever. On 14k chain with onyx and pearl accents. A lorgnette is a pair of spectacles with a handle used to hold them in place, rather than fitting over the ears. The lorgnette was usually used as a piece of jewelry, rather than to enhance vision. Fashionable ladies usually preferred them to spectacles. Very good condition, spring release works well. Chain measures 28" opened. Glasses 3 1/4" when folded. Weight 1.1 oz. PROVENANCE: A Charleston SC Private Estate.
