Porcelain with enamel paint and
gold. China, Qing dynasty, seal Xianfeng (1851 - 1861)
Two very attractively formed, small bowls with curved sides. On its outside, each bowl features a golden, styl-ized version of the character for "long life", shou 壽, painted four times. They are each framed by two green bats, symbols of luck. On the very lively and finely painted floral borders around the foot and the mouth are painted - flanked by bamboo - four, or eight, golden ruyi, also symbols of long life. On the bottoms is the six-character mark Da Qing Xianfeng nian zhi 大 清 咸 豐 年 製 painted in a deep blue and presumably from that time as well. Perfect condition.
