Lot 0016
* An Italian Baroque Walnut Armchair
16th century with later elements
having two female mask finials above two S-scroll carved splats and a rectangular seat within open arms terminating in scroll hand holds, raised on straight legs joined by scroll-carved stretchers.
Height 50 1/2 inches.
Estimate $ 150-250

The Property of the Detroit Institute of Arts, Sold to Benefit the Acquisition Fund

Back splats appear to be 18th/19th century elements, so if they were replacements at some point, it was probably during the 1800s or earlier. They might be original to the chair as they match the seat rail and lower stretcher's ornamentation. Worming, age cracks, discoloration throughout consistent with age. Can be sat upon but has some looseness in the joints.
