Ribbed eau de nil 2-piece, the bodice with wired high-neck net insert, short bell sleeve over balloon undersleeve cuffed in net, trimmed in darker green velvet and a self knot; trained skirt with two wide velvet hem ruffles. Petersham label "Bacharach". Attributed to Elizabeth of Romania, purchased at Christie's Auction July 11, 1967. Helen Larson called this auction the "Queen's Auction" due to so many objects with royal provenance in the sale. The ensemble was part of a larger group of objects: "The majority of the following dresses were the property of the late Princess Marie Elizabeth of Wied of Schloss Monrepos, Neuwied (b. 1880); many earlier dresses belonged to her grandmother, Princess Louise of Prussia". B-36, W-23, skirt L 45-55. (Net has large tears at shoulders, hidden tear under one arm, silk bodice lining shattering, lacking skirt lining, hem edge wear, lacking sash) fair.
