In March of 1912, John Lane purchased a box plant in Altavista, Virginia with the business starting out producing red cedar chest. By 1951 the small growing company expanded to wood occasional tables, case goods in 1956 and accent pieces in 1965. This new old stock wood cedar jewelry box was a incentive gift for purchasing from a local furniture dealer. If you purchased a piece of furniture then the local retailer would present you with a Lane wood cedar jewelry box as a thank you for your patronage. This box is stamped with the local business name, Popular Furniture”. This box includes the original key for the locking mechanism.
