Canadian Ammonite on Wood Stand
Item Details
Description
An impressive specimen with notable red and brown coloring of Canadian Ammonite, an extinct marine mollusk that first appeared in the Devonian Epoch ca. 400 million years ago and became extinct approximately 66 million years ago, along with the dinosaurs. Canadian Ammonites are scarce and highly prized by museums and fossil collectors. Because they are excellent index fossils, it is often possible to link the rock layer in which an Ammonite is found to specific geologic time periods. The name Ammonite was inspired by the spiral shape of their fossilized shells, which resemble coiled rams' horns, similarly to the way the Egyptian god Ammon was portrayed in myth. This beautiful Canadian Ammonite fossil is mounted on a hand decorated wooden stand. Size: 22"H x 17.5"W ; Country of Origin: Canada ; Era: Eocene Geologic Period
