Pre-Columbian, Northern Mexico, Paquime / Casas Grandes, ca. 1100 to 1450 CE. A large and lovely coil-made pottery olla with a hemispherical base, rolled walls, a deep interior cavity, and a petite, flared rim. The exterior is decorated with a fine line register of triangular, linear, and stepped motifs in hues of red and black, all atop a cream ground. Ramos, as a stylistic designation, is used when red-hued painted forms are outlined in black. The most exceptional Casas Grandes vessels usually have Ramos-style designs, and examples such as this show how this style required great skill and aesthetic vision. Size: 7.5" W x 5.875" H (19 cm x 14.9 cm).
