Europe, Venice (modern day Italy), found in western Africa, ca. 18th century CE. A beautiful necklace comprised of fifty-one millefiori glass beads. Most have yellow as their base color, with a couple having a bright red and white base color. The millefiori technique uses multicolored glass rods cut into cross sections to create their distinctive patterns. Trade beads played a major role in the age of European exploration and colonization, serving as currency on multiple continents. Strung in modern times, this is a wonderful and wearable example of trade throughout the modern world! Size: 12" L (30.5 cm).
