A carved wooden crocodile. Regarded as sacred animals in quite a few cultures and groups in the Papuan gulf, the crocodile is associated with the ceremonies conducted as a right of passage into adulthood. One tribe in particular, the Kaningaratribe, is known for their male-centric society and practice of skin cutting, resulting in what is commonly known as 'crocodile scars.' L:23in(58.4cm)
