JOHAN MELCHIOR ROOS (GERMAN, 1659-1731), ATTRIBUTED, OR SCHOOL OF, LANDSCAPE WITH FARM ANIMALS, oil on canvas, cow, sheep, and goat in a bucolic setting with castle in the background, inscribed "J. M. Roos" verso. Housed in an early gilt frame. 18th century. 19" x 27" sight, 25 1/4" x 33 1/4" OA.
Painting in good overall visual condition with moderate discoloration and scattered old inpainting to figures, sky, trees, and ground, old puncture and repair to right edge at tree. Frame with wear, possible repairs, and likely later surface.
Provenance: From a private Virginia collection.
Catalogue Note: Johan Melchior Roos (1659-1731) was born into an important German family of artists during the Baroque period. Likely a student of his father, Johan Heinrich Roos (1631-1685), Johan the younger also studied at the Hague and in Rome. He is best known for his paintings of landscapes and animals.

Condition
